Since its founding in 1977, the Packimpex Group has celebrated several major milestones both in the pan-European company’s own history, and in the moving and relocation industry more broadly.
Our most recent success story is growing internationally across Europe through strategic mergers and partnerships.
Going way back to our first breakthrough success in the 1990s when the group became the Swiss market leader in relocation services, Packimpex’s timeline tells the story of a strong and successful business that constantly evolves and grows to achieve its mission of meeting customers’ needs and offering the best service possible.
Packimpex launches operations in Ireland. Our newest office in Dublin is led by experienced industry colleague David Gilmartin, GMS MIM. Packimpex now provides destination and immigration services, furniture rental and corporate housing across seven European countries: Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK.
By acquiring Professional Relo Srl in Milan, Italy, Packimpex expands its European reach and now provides destination and immigration services and corporate housing across the Italian penisula.
CEO Damian Aebischer becomes a Packimpex shareholder, highlighting his long-term commitment to the company after more than a decade in senior leadership.
Demonstrating our firm commitment to our European expansion strategy, 2021 was a year of bold moves. In February the well-known Belgium relocation company Bright Expats SRL joined the Packimpex Group. In April we opened Packimpex Netherlands BV with offices in Amsterdam, and in July we announced the opening of Packimpex UK Ltd. with offices in London.
With the acquisition of the destination and immigration service activities of Gosselin Mobility NV in Belgium, Packimpex continues growing beyond Swiss borders. The strategic move strengthens relocation service offerings for existing and new customers in Belgium. These services include home-search, settling-in, immigration and departure assistance.
2020 marked the start of Packimpex's European expansion as UTS Relocation GmbH became Packimpex Deutschland GmbH.
This partnership with the former UTS Relocation, the destination and immigration service specialist based in Frankfurt, where Packimpex had already purchased the controlling interest in 2019, strengthened the destination services and visa and immigration support for existing and new Packimpex customers in Germany. This milestone marked an important step in Packimpex’s plan to expand its business across European borders.
Under the name Packimpex, we offer companies in Germany and beyond the same world-class customer service, trusted quality and excellence that our customers know and expect from the Packimpex brand.
Packimpex’s moving and storage division were sold to Gosselin Mobility, a company that handles international moving and relocation services throughout Europe, eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. From this point onward, the Packimpex core business becomes destination services, temp solutions included.
2011 was a big year for Packimpex. We became completely carbon neutral; acquired Altpeter, a logistics company in Freiburg, Germany; and launched the Packimpex Switzerland Hub.
After 30 years of active leadership, Ernst Jörg handed over ownership and management of Packimpex to his son Marcel Jörg in 2008. The group continued to expand in a way that demanded a radical image change. Soon after the change of ownership, in 2009, Packimpex was re-branded and changed its corporate identity.
To answer market demand and offer clients complete relocation solutions, Packimpex created Temp Solutions Ltd, our division encompassing all temporary relocation solutions: from Rental Furniture, Temporary Housing to CAM - Corporate Apartment Management.
In 2003, the Packimpex moving business which has slowly expanded throughout Switzerland, evolved to include destination services as well, after taking over a major supplier of destination services in Basel, Network Relocation Ltd.
The Packimpex headquarters was established in Thörishaus near Berne in 1989, where the Packimpex HQ is still located today. Our facilities include a storage capacity of 3,000 m2 and an office space of 2,000 m2.
Jimmy Carter becomes the US’s 39th President, Centre Pompidou in Paris is freshly inaugurated and ‘Star Wars – A New Hope’ is launched. 1977 is also the year when Packimpex was founded as an international moving company by Ernst Jörg in Bern, Switzerland. Packimpex's very first employee was Olivia Kälin – Reimann - in the photo. As Marcel Jörg puts it ‘Olivia was not only the first Packimpex employee but is also a Packimpex retiree & long serving manager, plus a personal friend of our family’.
